Visiting Jason in St. Louis

For [livejournal.com profile] shifterschuyler

Kyle has never been happier to see a bus depot. Traveling on the Freeway Behemoth is usually pretty relaxing to him. He can read or write or sleep or chat up the stranger next to him until they change seats to get away from his annoying questions. But he realizes that when you actually want to get to your destination, riding the bus is an exercise in patience and self-control. Granted, it wasn't as bad as the cross-country flight he'd taken to see Michael in New York after the gang had gotten separated, but that was because he knew Michael would like him when he actually showed up. There's no telling if Jason will. So, on top of the impatience there's admittedly some anxiety. Buddha really doesn't help him with that.

Once he gets off the bus, happy to stretch his legs, Kyle digs into his pocket and pulls out Jason's number. First thing he'll do is find a payphone and give the guy a call. If he's busy, Kyle can still take on the town and do a little exploring. It's all good.

"Roswell, New Mexico," Kyle says with a chagrined smile. "Home of the famous crash of '47 and a beacon to UFO enthusiasts from around the world. But it's home."

He sips some more of his shake. "What about you? Are you from St. Louis originally?"

[identity profile] shifterschuyler.livejournal.com 2006-03-07 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh man, I'm going to have to do my damnedest not to make UFO jokes...for at least an hour or so."

Jason laughs, "yup, born and raised in the St. Louis burbs."

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_valentino_/ 2006-03-07 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"I bet I've heard every UFO joke there is, so feel free," Kyle grins around his straw. "I can't think of any St. Louis jokes, though."

[identity profile] shifterschuyler.livejournal.com 2006-03-13 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Jason grins, "there aren't many. It's just not a funny city that way."

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_valentino_/ 2006-03-14 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
"I've gotta tell you, though, I've had "Meet me in St. Louis, Louie" going through my head since I got here." Kyle tilts his head a little. "But I'll save you hearing my rendition."

[identity profile] shifterschuyler.livejournal.com 2006-03-14 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Thank you! I appreciate your kind consideration!"

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_valentino_/ 2006-03-15 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Kyle shrugs. "I'm a kind, generous guy."

[identity profile] shifterschuyler.livejournal.com 2006-03-17 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, I'm still picking up the tab." Jason looks at their empty plates, then grins at Kyle. "But first! Pie!"

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_valentino_/ 2006-03-17 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Pie!" Kyle laughs, nodding enthusiastically. He can't believe he still has room for it. "And if you're going to pick up this tab, I want to pick up the next pig out."

[identity profile] shifterschuyler.livejournal.com 2006-03-17 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Won't argue with you there," Jason smirks, then hails the waitress over.

"Cherry pie, vanilla ice cream, and a cup of joe."

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_valentino_/ 2006-03-17 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"Same," Kyle nods, watching the waitress clear away their dishes.

"Next time, I'll get the boston cream," he grins at Jason. "Or maybe even banana cream. Maybe I'll just have all pie."

[identity profile] shifterschuyler.livejournal.com 2006-03-18 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Three course pie platter. Sounds like a winner."

Jason gives the waitress a brilliant smile when she returns with the pie. She remains unmoved by his pearly whites. Time to change audience. Jason flashes his best smile at Kyle.

"Dig In."

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_valentino_/ 2006-03-18 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
That smile makes the heat rise in Kyle's face - and other places, south of the equator - and he quickly starts to eat his pie. He stops when he realizes that it's actually pretty damn good. Delicious, in fact.

"Oh my god. I think my tongue just had an orgasm," he says, blinking at Jason in exaggerated wonder. "How could I have missed this for all this time?"

[identity profile] shifterschuyler.livejournal.com 2006-03-18 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Jason laughs, "why do you think I come back? It's not for the service."

He keeps digging in, then takes a swig of the coffee. Mmmm....damn good too....there were reasons why cops came here.

He'd have to thank Zerbrowski for the tip sometime.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_valentino_/ 2006-03-18 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, they're not exactly warm and fuzzy here, are they?" Kyle grins. "Good thing their pie rocks."

He took a sip of his coffee and sighed. "There's this diner back home called the Crashdown. I always thought they had the best pie and coffee, but they might have to share the title."

[identity profile] shifterschuyler.livejournal.com 2006-03-19 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Crashdown. That's appropriate."

Jason laughs, "a cop rec'd the place, so I knew it'd be good - I just didn't realize how good until I tried the pie."

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_valentino_/ 2006-03-20 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Cops always know the good places," Kyle nods. "My dad's the sheriff in Roswell, so I heard that a lot.".

[identity profile] shifterschuyler.livejournal.com 2006-03-20 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Really? Cool."

Jason takes another bite, then gulps it down.

"Unless it wasn't?"

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_valentino_/ 2006-03-20 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Kyle grins. "Nah, my dad's pretty damn cool, actually. My mom left us when I was six, so he didn't have it easy being a single dad. And the cop thing wasn't that bad. I kind of reaped the benefits of being the sheriff's kid."

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_valentino_/ 2006-03-21 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
"All the girls at school wanted to date me, I was the star quarterback, I'd get away with a lot at school." Kyle blushes a little. "I was a different guy back then."

[identity profile] shifterschuyler.livejournal.com 2006-03-26 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Aww...hopefully not that different."

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_valentino_/ 2006-03-27 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't care so much about the popularity, accolades and favors, anymore," Kyle shrugs, then smiles. "I do, however, still appreciate the attentions of a pretty girl or two."

[identity profile] shifterschuyler.livejournal.com 2006-03-30 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Jason leers, "at the same time? I'm all for that sort of appreciation."

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_valentino_/ 2006-03-30 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
A waggle of his eyebrows and Kyle nods. "Throw in a pretty guy or two and I do believe it's a perfect situation, my friend."
