The ceremony was simple and beautiful, the symbol of a small, joyous victory in the midst of all the loss they'd experienced at having to leave their lives behind. As Kyle sat in the little white chapel, he couldn't help feeling wistful at the sight of Liz and Max exchanging vows. He supposed there would always be a part of him that loved her, but that didn't mean he couldn't see that she and Max really did belong together.
He turned to Isabel, sharing a smile with her. She returned it with a tearful smile of her own, and Kyle covered her hand with his. He could only imagine how hard it must be for her. On the one hand, she had to be happy for her brother, but on the other, she had to be missing her husband and remembering her own wedding. Kyle understood Isabel's reasons for not wanting Jesse to give up his life to be with her, but he would have given anything to see her happy because the man she loved was with her.
Isabel looked at him again, and as the preacher pronounced Max and Liz man and wife, turned her hand over to hold onto Kyle's. When she smiled at him again, he saw only joy there. It was joy for Max and Liz, joy for the fact that something beautiful and pure had come out of their hardship, and hope for whatever awaited them in the future. When she turned to look at her brother and sister-in-law, and the group made their way out of the little white chapel, Kyle couldn't stop thinking about that smile. He knew that it was all he'd ever want to see when she looked at him.
